Hitachi Storage Navigator Modular 2 account notes

I’m well underway having fun with the HDS storage and software! There is one thing I’ll note that may not be intuitive for the the HDS controllers and software relationship. The root account doesn’t have the permission to do everything. Basically, there is a default root account that has a default password on the AMS 2300 series. The controller is added to Storage Navigator Modular 2 as shown below:


This account doesn’t allow the full storage provisioning. If you add the AMS 2300 to the Storage Navigator software, the console just looks like this (and is missing the important “Initial Configuration” screen):

imageIf root is used, the panel above is pretty much useless. The good practice would be to add a designated account that has the permissions to manage storage. Basically all of the View and Modify roles below:


With that, the added username can access the much more features array configuration screen; shown below:


At that point we are good!

  2. No – I can’t. It comes with your storage controller kit on a CD.

    I bought my storage array second hand didnt get the CD really need the software… It should be available free considering it only works with there hardware..

    Desperate for it else I have 20TB of storage sitting there doing sweet FA.. CAn you help at all?

    Got it somewhere after relentlessly scouring the net, default password for root is…. “storage” (withouth the quotes)
